See tickets & passesThe west entrance is 35 miles from the resort. Drive Going-to-the-Sun Road or take a boat tour on a glacial lake in the morning, then be back for Alpine Slide laps and a beer on the Summit House deck with the park's peaks on the horizon. In winter, snowshoeing in Glacier rounds out a ski week. This is the ultimate base camp.
Explore summerSix miles from the slopes, Central Avenue has been the main street since the Great Northern Railway arrived in 1904: the bars and shops the railroad workers built are still standing, bookended by the 1927 Tudor Revival depot and the town's first brick building. Today it's coffee shops, breweries, boutiques, Sweet Peaks ice cream, and a farmers market every Tuesday night from late May through September. City Beach on Whitefish Lake is a short walk from downtown.
Where to stayGlacier Park International (FCA) is a 30-minute drive, with direct flights from 17 major cities: Seattle, Salt Lake, Minneapolis, Denver, Phoenix, and Vegas year-round. Enterprise is the rental partner; go 4WD in winter.
Amtrak's Empire Builder stops daily at the historic Whitefish depot. The eastbound arrives about 7 a.m., in time for breakfast before first chair. From Seattle, Portland, Spokane, Chicago.
From downtown: Baker Ave over the viaduct, becomes Wisconsin Ave, right on Big Mountain Rd at the flashing lights, 5 miles up. GPS: 1015 Glades Drive. If you pass under the skier bridge, you went too far. Or skip driving: the S.N.O.W. Bus is free.
