Since December 14, 1947

It started with Lloyd "Mully" Muldown and the Hell-Roaring Ski Club skinning to the summit in the 1930s. Opening day drew a thousand people from the Flathead Valley: T-bar tickets were $2, hamburgers a quarter. Soon after, 10th Mountain Division veterans arrived to coach, including Austrian-American racing champion Toni Matt, whose name is still on the front side's classic run. Seventy-nine seasons later, the mountain still belongs to this valley.

In summer, the Forest Service's free Summit Nature Center (Wed-Sat, 10-3) brings the mountain's bears, lions, and whitebark pines indoors, with Junior Ranger programs and daily discovery walks.

Slopeside locker room, ski-in members lounge under Chair 2, first-tracks Dawn Patrol on north-facing terrain, and reserved parking. Membership is full; the waitlist is real. 406-862-1770
